Hamas on Thursday said it was committed to honouring the Gaza ceasefire deal with Israel and added that mediators were pushing for hostages to be released this weekend as planned under the terms of the deal, France 24 reports.

“We are keen to implement it (the ceasefire) and oblige the occupation to fully abide by it. Mediators are pressuring (Israel) to complete the full implementation of the agreement, oblige the occupation to abide by the humanitarian protocol, and resume the exchange process on Saturday,” a Hamas spokesman said in a statement.
Mediators have secured a commitment by the parties involved to pursue implementation of
the Gaza ceasefire, a Palestinian official close to the mediation efforts has told Reuters.

Israel has called up military reservists to prepare for a possible re-eruption of the war in Gaza if Hamas fails to meet a Saturday deadline to free further Israeli hostages.
